Hi Hana, I hope you’re busy with orders.

Hana, if you could spare the time, have a look at your external links. To rank well on search engines, you need one way links (bukan reciprocal links) from authority / quality sites pointing to your website.

Equally important, are the sites you have listed under “My Favourite links”; they can also affect your site’s ranking. If these websites are poor quality or spammy (or use black hat seo), they in turn can hurt your website position on Google.

Link building memang nya very tricky, if you wish, I can e-mail you in more detail. (and I can let you know the tool I use). Do let me know.
Try to avoid paid links, paid blogs, three way link or excessive link exchange since these can result in a website ‘kena’ banned or penalised by Google.

Sorry, we have been receiving a number of fraudalent orders from Singapore / Indonesia; that is why I am very reluctant to put our website address on a public forum. We did received an order from Phillippines, first time we shipped to Philippines, turned out alright. Phew!

On a positive note, Singapura PRs for both my habibi and my anak have been approved, so we will be returning to Singapura from U.K. in a few weeks time to sign all the papers and look at the possibility of 'balik kampong'.grin

Do keep in touch and May I wish everyone 'Selamat Tahun Baru'.

Hi Rose,

thanks for writing. So far my business alhamdullillah, get more orders from Malaysia. Now, I include our traditional bengkung in my web, which is getting quite difficult to find it here. So far the response has been very good. I am the distributor for bengkung from Singapore.

I even received order from US, our Malay lady who is migrating there bought it, surprisingly. Well, that's what you call global audience when you have a website.

Anyway, I have been reading a lot on how to improve my web and get more traffic. I am revamping my site now. Thanks for your advise, I also read about those external link etc.... I am in the process of removing all those link. Thank you dear and please email me more details.

Good to know that you received order from Phillippine, and glad they have received it safely. Last year, I shipped to Ukraine...quite worried but alhamdullillah, she received it safely and quite fast which she is happy about it.

Well, good to know you will balik kampung. Hope everything fine for you here and your family. Selamat Tahun Baru to you and family.

By the way, can you email me your website address please? At least I can see what I can improve on my web from yours.

Thanks.

That’s good to know Hana.
Well, if the response for the traditional bengkung (traditional body wrap) has been very good, than it could well be a product that can be sold outside the Malay community.
There are women searching for ‘body wrap’ online. (according to the keyword suggestion tool)
Okay Hana, over the Xmas holiday, I will find the time to email you.

Hi Hana, Rose, Abang Abu and everybody

If you dun know me by now, I am always looking for some good affiliate program I can post in this forum.

I have been checking out your website, Hana and if you are still into submitting your site to Article Submission sites, you should check out Brad Callen's Article Submitter

I have been using it for my website and it is very easy to use. Some links dun work but most do and it just makes your work in submitting easier.

And it is free to use unless you want to upgrade. According to my 'si fu', the free directories are enough to drive ample traffic so

Check it Out!

Hi Rose

Congratulations on your success in applying for your family's PR. Are you here already?

Hi Abang Abu

I love reading your articles. It is great info.

Hi momoftwo,

Sorry for not replying to your posting earlier. Yes, we've been to S'pore to wrap up the PR, which was a breeze btw. My family in S'pore told me that it will be difficult for my daughter to get a university place in S'pore because competition is very stiff, so here I am, still stuck in the U.K.!

Business front, launched a Wordpress business blog roughly two weeks ago, did feature a collection of my Malay antiques on the blog and I received 2 enquiries from Malaysians (orang melayu). Not sure whether I want to sell my collection though.

We're trying to brush up our website and invest in some lighting equipment so that our photos online look as professional as those taken in the studio.

After that I was hoping to join Amazon as a seller... see how it goes...

I got to know another Malay girl in America who started a blog selling designer handbags  and a few designer clothes...but don't know what arrangement she has with the designer store in the US...whether its drop shipping or, sale or return basis.

In the meantime, keep plugging away... Not sure what happened to Hana? I think she's busy selling to the Malaysians.

Hi Rose

I guess I'll just have to wait till your daughter graduates that we can meet huh? grin

I am just happy that you have progressed so well. As for me, I have tried offline selling. Have tasted a little, tiny bit of success there. However I can't seem to stay focused on it. O well..

As for Hana, she is busy. But we do keep in touch so lets hope you do too..

Hi Momoftwo,

I was looking at your avatar and a thought came to my mind: have you ever consider selling modern, fashionable Muslim clothes online?
To give you an example: this San Diego company - probably one of the few ones online that sell such fashionable clothes.

http://www.artizara.com

Accidentally, we're using the same web hosting company as them.

O wow I LOOVe the clothes! Too bad they dun have those affiliate programs going on... wink

Actually I can have some clothes to sell. I can get them from a friend. But the problem is that she and I have to take orders first before selling them becos of that thing called, 'not enuff cash'...

We have no funds to pre order and to place them on the website, I just dunno how to go about it becos it takes about a month or two for the orders to come.

However I do have an idea, that the potential customer can place an order and then when the order arrive, we can request for payment thru email by paypal.

Actually my that friend has been selling informally thru her multiply website. The website is to showcase the items but she will meet with the ladies who are interested.

I have a more 'international' idea not unlike http://www.artizara.com

But to have the 'international' customers wait a month or two is beyond what I can bear have the customer to do.

Is there such a thing though for clothes? To wait for a month or two for the order to come?

Thanks for your suggestion, Rose.

I hope you don't mind my asking this but how come it takes 1 to 2 months, is that the normal turnaround for shipment from supplier? If you ask the customer to pay when the order arrives, there is that risk that she has change her mind and will not pay, so payment should be made when she places the order.
I'm sure I've seen some websites that take pre-orders for clothes.

Kalau tidak ada modalkan, another way to do it I suppose, is see whether you can approach any seller at Geylang atau Arab Str, boutique ke…wholesaler ke..yang interested in having internet presence and willing to pay you commission on sales.

Difficult for me to advise. Since we sell antiques, I don't have any dealings with wholesalers, suppliers or manufacturers (not yet anyway) maybe Hana can help you.

Besides using multiply, try putting them on Blogger.com too, its free kan? With Blogger, you can promote the blog and link with other blogs worldwide (eg, blogs by Muslim fashionista), not sure how multiply works.

I’ve seen this live traffic feed called “FeedJit” it is so cool that I’m going to install it on our blog.

IMHO this niche its scalable. If you do eventually proceed to a website like antizara (the hosting co. is in USA btw), you can add other products for women…halal chocolate, selendang, trendy pins for the hijabs… apa lagi? Muslim swimwear…wedding clothes for Muslimah, ‘halal’ perfume…makeup the list is endless…

Bear in mind, if you sell clothes online, you need a generous ‘refund’ policy, bound to have returns.

Regarding not able to stay focus, I have that problem all the time, so I’ve decided to just stay focus on our antik biz and not dabble in anything else.

Hi Rose

Actually I dunno why it takes so long to have the order. The business is my dear friends and I am her affiliate.

How about if I ask for a small deposit to place an order? What do you think? Have you seen such going on?

About your second suggestion, I have thot about it too (approach wholesalers, etc) but that I have to wait till the children (my daughter is 4 at present) are older and I can trust them not to injure themselves to be left alone at home when I have to go out, y'know. I have tried taking them with me. Hai lagi banyak duit kena blanja...

About blogs, I feel that using wordpress has more presence than blogger. If you are using blogger, have the same content pasted on wordpress. I am using both but maybe it is my imagination that my wordpress is getting more hits.

About FeedJit, wow the coincidence is getting uncanny, becos I have just seen it yesterday right before this post of yours. I want to install it too.

Thanks for all your suggestions and concern. Right now I can’t imagine if I can reach that tahab. But I do have the need and the want to earn on my own so I dun intend to give up my online stuff anytime soon.

I think that is a very good idea asking for a deposit - say 50% but make sure deposit itu cukup untuk you bayar your supplier.

Once the order arrives, you can ask the customer to pay the balance. So if she changes her mind, you won't be out of pocket.

Pelahan pelahan lah. Try this pre-order first, once you gain more confidence can approach more wholesalers or sellers who want internet presence.

If you need to go out and meet people, schedule it on days when your husband is at home and can keep an eye on your children - saturday afternoon, sunday ke atau evenings.

With Antizara, I will not be surprised if they sourced their products from countries like Jordan. You can also do the same - beli in Ringgit or Rupiah or Vietnamese currency - murah murah sekali, jual in US dollars.

Don't think it is a good idea to have two blogs with the same content (spamming), just use one. Its good to know that Wordpress blog has better presence than Blogger, since my blog is also in Wordpress.

Best of luck!

Momoftwo,

One last word, something to help you along.

www.wanitaniaga.com
Panduan dan Tips Perniagan Internet Khusus untuk kaum wanita.

Forum dimana wanita melayu (kebanyakan wanita Malaysia) berbincang mengenai
internet bisnes. (how is my Malay, bolih tahan kan?)
What is good about this forum is some of the ladies are already running websites and selling online.

Our website is now on the first page of Google.com and yahoo.co.uk for our main keyword -  so I'm very pleased with myself. But we have a looooooong way to go starting with getting a new camera and overhauling our product images.

Okay Zarina will keep in touch.
