Hi,

I have read some articles on wine investment and understand that the return can reach around 15% or more per annum. As I know, there are some wine merchants around who helps investors manage their wine portfolio.

Anybody with experience in wine investment to share?

Cheers grin

Hi triplesec,

Wine investment can actually be a good investment vehicle. This is especially so if you are holding on to wine that has been aged for some time. I know of some wine investors who reap a tidy sum from this.

It is not without it's cons though.

They are namely,

1. This kind of investment is extremely illiquid. It is not like stock where you can find buyers easily. Say you are in urgent need of cash, you will not be able to sell them off quickly as you may have liked.

2. You will need to rent a storage space if I'm not wrong.

3. There is a chance of bottle breakage, though I think that will be covered by insurance.

Despite these, I think that wine investment is pretty viable, but probably not for me at the moment, since this is out of my circle of competence.

Definitely worth investing as the prices for fine wines are always increasing... I have been in the wine industry for many years... As far as i like to drink them, I believe they are good for investments as well. Low risk high returns. You need to invest carefully with some very unique conditions. These conditions are very important factors to Wine Investments which many people tend to overlook them or are not well inform about it.

LaTache, I am doing some research on the rate of return for investing in wine. Can you help me with the data gathering process?

Is there any compilation of general wine prices? Or any close substitute?

If wine is a good investment, the general price level should have an upward bias that is greater than the risk free rate. It would be very helpful if historical prices can be obtained!

Great!

The best way to tell if wines are good investment in general is to tabulate the rate of return to holding wine. To do that, i will need the prices of wines a period of 5 years or more. Do you have access to any such information?

Hi All,

Am new at this forum, and am a wine investor.

My first investment was in Year 2005, when wine investment first arrived.
As my initial batches were wine with short holding period of 18 months, i've seen my returns and thus, have got my guts to invest more.

It is also very important to have a good broker manage your assets.
I've had my fair share of brokers who leave their company faster than my wine can arrive, and am tired of the high turnover.

This has forced me to choose another brokerage firm, and have specifically requested for the Director/ Head of investments to manage my account.

Storage & insurance are usually included in the investment packages.

Another thing i've learnt (being blessed with the haggling ability of a woman Smiley ), is that brokerage firms will factor a certain percentage of their broker's commission into the investment amount. So that leaves me some space to bargain downwards.

Hi i am a fine wine broker from universal asset group. Recently our company came out a VERY GOOD promo called the pay out system. This promo will only stay for month of Sep. All investor will get back a profit of 12% for a year of how much you invest and this only allow you to invest only for 1 year [better than putting your money into your Fixed
Deposit right Cheesy]. If you or anyone of you want to know more about this, feel free to contract me at 93661577 or email me your question to lyemingkhai@yahoo.com.sg

Hi all,

I’ve been building a portfolio in the last few years complete with South East Asia stocks (which has had ups and downs), CIS in Oil drilling (which has been pretty successful) and now that my annual royalties have kicked in I am looking to find something a little bit less rocky.

It has recently come to my attention that Wine Investment as not lost investor money ever and also been the overall best investment in the last 10 years. Is this correct?

Can anyone recommend a contact or as had a good experience with wine investment?

Hi there, I came across this forum from my Google Alerts and I am in the position to answer all of your questions regarding investment in the wine market.   You are correct in thinking that wine can offer over 15% per annum profit but I would always recommend you expect 10% - 12% to manage your expectations in a more sensible and achievable way.

I am the co-founder and Investments Director of Premier Cru Fine Wine Investments and we are the worlds leading Fine Wine Investment House.  We are a specialist company that provides a full service for our clients from the choice of the right wines to buy all the way through to the eventual sale.

What most people don't realise is that wine is a lower risk investment which has traditionally high returns and great tax advantages for most investors.  Wines can be selected to meet low, medium or high risk attitudes and the right wines need to be chosen to maximise profits and to suit the amount of money and time you have.

We have historical data that goes back hundreds of years the market is less volatile than other more traditional investment markets, and the wines are a tangiable asset which you should always wholly own,  It is important to do your research as there are a few 'ethically challenged' companies out there and the adviser you choose should have a good track record, safeguards in place for your benefit, a good reputation, and a public profile is always a help.

If you have any questions that I can help with please ask.  If you want to send any direct emails please send enquiries to enquiry@premiercru.com and quote Project Senso or Forum and I will instruct my staff to forward the emails to me for a personal and direct response.

i have also tried to attach our graph which demonstrates the wine market performance to give you a better idea of how the market fairs.
