hi guys

i have the opportunity to go to china these few days and since i am selling toys, i thought it might be a good idea to contact the toy factories there about  sourcing toys from them straight. if i buy my inventory from them should be able to cut some costs.

i was thinking of a list of qns to ask them:

1. minimum order?
2. if they accept i-banking
3. what details/ drawings do they need if i want to manufacture my own brand of toys?

however this list seems to be too basic and (sry for being a bit too navie) well... they say you have to be careful of being conned - thing is i dont know WHAT to look out for exactly?

can anyone advise on what sort of qns i should be asking the factories / wholesalers or what kind of tricks must i be aware of?

much thanks in advance
cheers

Talking abt toys..
One of my good friend is in Toy manufacturing... in china.
always ask me to help him to promote his remote control toys and

he is already a listed company in US.
If you like give me a call and see how it will fit.

going to china yourself... buying toys.
1. so you are buying in container load?
2. china accept china bank... and china banks has internet banking facility.
use bank of china.
3. what is the quantity? for custom creation of toys?  and what type of toys?

Cheers

thanks pingfaninsg

to be frank i have no 'quantity' in mind.  i definitely not big enough to ship in container loads or anything...

mostly just want to get some quotations for making own models. most likely it will be just a simple plastic model with customisable skins. i guessing they wont accept orders like less than 10 000 pcs?

how much would it cost then?

*not sure if i want remote control toys as of right now. sorry : (

Find out how much is the mould first .... before getting the factory to quote.

For me... my last mould take three changes, and cost me more than 60,000 rm. for 1 single mould... my actual product consist of 3 moulds...

what type of plastic material?  currently the price of plastic is expensive like hell...  HDPE, PET, ... LDPE?  never use pvc for toys.

there are so many details... so you are talking general quotation. which is impossible... basically you have never manufacture plastic items before?

find out the details, so that you can cut cost, else you will be makan alive...
1. find out what plastic will be suitable.
2. what are the mould costing...
3. if it is simply injection moulding ... most plastic factories will be able to cater to your need.
4. what are the coloring ingredient used?   please avoid the lead based paint...

wow ok...

ya i nvr tried to make anything before, so is still quite blur on these issues

hmm given u rqns i think most likely vinyl and probably just make a "monster-shaped" plastic toy. most prob. something like this:
http://www.kaiju-taro.com/shop_system/img/1005259gdsa.jpg

basically just a plastic toy.

think in this case the cost will be on the mould then? colouring would be a problem as well (if say we want one arm to be red, another arm to be black, and a third arm to be transparent blue or something)

do plastic factories in general make the mould also?
or i have to get someone else to do it?

thanks a lot ^^

Yes the bulk of the cost is the mold itself.  Which is a fix cost
and also on the plastic material cost. is a variable cost, and super crazy up and down price nowadays...

then you have to calculate is it worthwhile to make 10,000 plastic toys...
I presume that such toy creation is using injection molding.
and then for coloring,
cheap choice is to get workers to do the coloring for you.

choice of using china mold.maker.. is when you have a standard and easy mold problem and you are easily satisfied..

choice of using malaysia mold maker or singapore mold maker, you can still make sure that they will cater for changes.. and problems.

for me my mold requirement is precision, but for toys manufacturing... I dont know whether precision is required?  But definitely creating a mold in china is cheap... simple mold is cheap... ...
