Dear all,

I'm trying to bring in cosmetic products from overseas to SG. R&D done by companies from overseas and tested. However, how do I actually go into bringing these products to major stores like Watsons, Guardian, Sasa etc? And the license required are?

Those with experience, kindly provide some advice. Thank you!

You would have to approach the buyers or the buying department of each store and convince them to hold your products. This would usually involve guaranteeing them marketing support, collateral and full consignment terms for the first few transactions. After that is done, you can negotiate for more favourable terms (ie. 60, 90 days credit term).

You would need to apply for a Central Registration (CR) number from Singapore Customs as well as ensure that your business function declared in your 2 business activities in ACRA reflects Import/Export and Trading.

Thanks! However, is there a need to get license or approval from HSA?
With regards to the marketing support and consignment terms, could you provide some sample or more details?

If your product is to be ingested or applied, I believe you should sent the products for testing and approval; I can't be sure here as I never imported cosmetics before, sorry about that.

Marketing support = Brochures, promotor support, advertising support, etc that you will run for your own products and drive traffic into retailers (by having "Available in Watson Stores, NTUC and etcetc"

Consignment = Leave the goods there for an unspecified time until they sell, or if they don't you just take them back.

No big store will give a new supplier C.O.D. unless you are carrying something THEY want and they have no other supplier choice, and even then they would probably negotiate on credit terms.

i don't think guardian/watsons etc will want to do COD business with u.

they have tons of cosmetic brands in their store already.

u gotta convince the buyer with ur marketing support too. n be prepared to pay for putting the products in there. by paying i mean good shelf space, corporate ads, promo ads etc.
