Hi guys,

My friend and I are planning to start an advertising firm. Both of us are from advertising background. We are already discussing it at the moment and ready to start once all details are confirmed.

One major problem however, is that we are not clear how advertising firm clinch deals or where to find clients. Our assumption is that we approach companies and present our concepts/ideas to them. Hopefully they will be interested and engage us.
If not, do we wait for clients to come or how to look for deals? As we understand tht not all companies will engage us, if no companies engage us, where to look for clients? Is it based on clients' referral or word of mouth?

Anyone with marketing or advertising experience willing to guide us. Thanks  smiley

Hope im not confusing u all up  smiley

Hi Niks,

I am sure I am qualified to help and will like to offer help here....
Firstly I will like to confirm what you meant by advertising background....

Since you are from advertising background, I will assume that you are creating customers for your prospective clients....
At the same time, I will like to know what kind of solutions you are providing for your clients and how you can apply what you know to help yourself to find customers....

Please advise me ya.....

Hi Inle. Thanks for replying!
Both me and my partner have a degree in advertising and previously gained some experience by interning at a small advertising film locally.

We would like to offer guerilla advertising or outdoor advertising to our clients. Advertising that is not the normal billboards, tv, radio stuff. But rather more unconventional that is not commonly seen.

I understand that we have to pitch ideas thru presentations to clients. We should be able to get some deals by doing that. But after that, do we keep presentating endlessly or wait for client's referrals to us?

Simply saying, we are not sure how and where to find clients. And how to ensure that we have a steady client base to tide thru every month.

Hope im not confusing  Smiley

What is an advertising film? A short film on the concept of advertising?

On a serious note, if you can make such a glaring mistake repeatedly, you might want to seriously consider if running an advertising FIRM (read: meticulous and accurate portrayal of your clients) is something you are really ready to take up at this point in time.

If you are having difficulties in figuring out how to get clients, it might be a good reflection on how you might want to make your own A&P to attract them in.

Usually people I know in A&P left their original firms after a few years to start up with a few clients that they have worked with before, and not on a whim because they want to try things but have no base to roll out on.

Get your own client base then strike it out your own.

 -  tie up with a pr consultant agency, to let them outsource their project to you.
 -  your portfolio is most important asset
 -  get a great business development manager.

No clients, = No projects = No business.

All companies who went to advertisement firm not becos the advertisement firm can help them to get creative advertisement ... that help them to win prizes or for getting the advertisement through the media channels at all.

The core reason for them to engage professionals is because they want to improve their sales cycle, improve their leads generation, improve their sales conversion... and advertisement is an investment, advertisement is a tool, a vehicle...

If you have a unqiue advertisement tool, that can promise 300% increase in sales lead, and 200% increase in sales conversion in less than 30 days.  Guaranteed 100%

Tell me, which business will not want to have that.
-  Attract the owners, by speaking in their language.
-  Show the owners, by showing them your portfolio.  How you do it and who you have done it for.

-  Guaranteed with 100% tracking cabability... All advertisement must be
trackable and measureable.... What is your benchmark, and how do you deem an advertisement is effective and worthy investment.
-  Invoice with Price Tag. that they will engage you.   ... get few big companies... and then increase your price tag.

The difference between marketing in the different countries base on a survey and report from IE singapore.

Singapore -  They are looking for after service quality, after sales support, and portfolio, relationship come last.
Malaysia -  Relationship, and service quality
Indonesia - Business relationship, and service quality, etc more ingredients...

Different countries different business culture, and singapore is one of the best place to do business, cos you need no great business relationship to clitch a deal, since they look at your track record, and service quality.. However, business is still base on human touch and relationship building to enable you to open up the doors.

Hi Niks....

Thanks for getting back to me.... I was away for a while doing some work and really caught up....

I see that you are from an advertising background and I assume you and your partner have all the technicals to do great advertisements....

I am from an Artistic background and I will love to see very awesome creative works....
At the same time, as what pingfaninsg mentioned, it is crucial that the advertisements are not for creative purposes but should also focus on the business aspects as well....

Speaking from my Business background, that focus should address how your advertisements can be able to help businesses to attract more customers, create more sales and impact on the bottomlines....

If you like to explore how to attract more clients,  I could share some insights with you personally that will guarantee to open your minds through different perspectives of business potential that you might have overlooked....

PM me when you are ready, Niks....

Just to add....

Business Development and Marketing Strategies are MUCH MORE than just advertising....
And missing that part out is missing out a huge portion of Profit Exploding Opportunities for your business....
