Home-owners are allowed to conduct small-scale businesses in their homes under a new Home Office Scheme. This scheme applies to both private and Housing and Development Board (HDB) properties. Eligible home-owners must seek prior written approval from HDB or the Urban Development Authority (as the case may be) to use their homes for home office use.

It doesn't look too nice to have your home address in your name card.  Unless you are doing those online business where there is no need for name card but people can still find out your registered address by going to ARCA. Anyway a registered business address only cost you $68 per annum. Read here for more information www.ParamountAssetsCorp.com

Hi,
I do agree with what Paramount mentioned in regards to the office address. An office address will increase your "perceived" value. In addition, it will also give your clients more confidence in you. I did an very implusive decision by taking up a prime office as I love the atmosphere too much. Its cost me a bomb... But then I realised becos of my office address, the perceived value of my goods is higher. So it all depends what is the nature of your business. Smiley

To all reading...

I've start up business (using their registered address) with the help of a business service company and they got me into trouble with and now company is under investigations. a word of caution, choose yr supporting service business partner very carefully. Now they can jolly well 'shake' away their responsibilities by informing me that they will not be continuing their services with my company and i need to search for another 'registering office address' again. I'm now in dilemma....

Is the same when you choose any service provider. Its not about the money (though is important to the pocket). It is about long term partnership to outsource some parts of your business operation to others as it is not your core. I have worked with one for many years and am happy with it (Yan Management Services - small company). I really have a peace of mind as someone responsible is barking me to attend to statutory things...

Hi Busy,

Thank you for reading my post and showed interest...

MOM called me up on Sept 2009 and state that I operated without a valid licence. Now under investigations.. I have to stop whatever I'm doing and they (business service) aft being questioned by MOM decide to withdraw their involvement (ceasing renting their adress being my business address).

Dilemma:
Whether to con't the current business, if con't (licence not sure would be granted due to current conviction).  If wrap-up, what abt my company's image & reputation built with heart & sincerity..

I approach their business service for registering of my company (under placement of foreign manpower (M'sian) category). They charge $600 (just for registering) and gave me links to accounting systems and file & $230  for every 6mths for using their address as my registered business address (i never got my company bank statement at all) neither did they do any filing correspondence as promised nor they advise me the licence involved i needed to apply (in view of my business nature). I need to get a Employment Agency Licence in order to operate.

My first attempt to be an entrepreneur ended very abruptly. Sad

Haiz, how many business services provider out there sincerely help us (beginner) to start & 'grow' together with our business....

Do you want to speak to us? Actually Entreprenuers must be able to judge too when dealing with anyone. Never be tempted by prices. If you understand a  price is the money you pay, it does not equate as the value you get.

You also need to know the rules and regulations. Not all knows the rules and regulation very well. You need to have a $20,000 bond or an insurance bond to get the lisence. Who is your company secretary? He/she is the one to sue if that person has not advise you, not the company.
