Well put. May I add that if everyone would put in his own two cents' worth of opinions and insisted that his version is the best there is for everyone else, what we would get is a very confused government policy that serves no one and infuriates everyone.

Requoting myself,

Quote from: Soltari
...Look at Germany. I went there last year and saw so many jobless people just hanging around on the streets begging, or just loitering around on the streets. They are not motivated to work, but can just wait around for the handouts to come in. At the same time, the government has to go into deficit just to pay these unmotivated and highly untrained people , and those who work have to pay more taxes to feed the jobless. Does this kind of government intervention really promote entrepreneurship, or regresses its progress I wonder?

Yeah sure if the government gives you everything you need, then where's the onus to drive on? If you want something badly enough, you'll fight tooth and nail to get it yourself. I know a friend, who happens to be on this forum by the name of <<dreamz>>, who used to be just another website programmer. He looks the part too, even today. cheesy But through sheer hard work and determination he is able to make himself become an adequately eloquent person who is quick and sharp and invaluable in meetings and negotiations. Today, he is well recognised in not a few government circles, as well as in selected business and organisation circles. All in the space of 6 months after his own family tragedy. He's not yet a rich man, but if he keeps up this hunger to succeed and push beyond himself he will soon be.

Time is certainly not a factor here, but what you want to achieve in life, that's greater than yourself, or simply money.

Well i believe as human we need to have more than brutal efficiency. We also need compassion.

We know for a fact that people need unemployment claims, disability claims and elderly claims. Yet the reason we allow sufferings to continue would be to deter a few miscreants?

As far as I know, u can only claim welfare check for 3 mths unemployed. Then u must find a job.

Like exige said: "There is always this compromise between equility and efficiency that has to be made." As a human being i would rather try to police the miscreants and save the needy than sacrifice the needy to prevent the abuse of the system.

Oh democracy! We have a vote each. Since many of the people here hated NS, why don't you go and change the rules. No more NS!

Are those people who claims they feel feel NS is a waste of time, yet say we are democratic, we can change rules slapping their own faces?

So are u implying that we're not a democracy?

How exactly did u link democratic and hating NS? So all those who say we're a democracy MUST love NS?

please, no one opinions worth 2 cents unless you are very sure that your opinions worth 2 cents

next opinions does not matter much now, is your idea. Yes your opinion may me damn good but you have no ideas on how to improve it. your opinion is equal to crap. people may take your opinion and create a idea on how to improve the situation.

lastly. government policy keeps changing all the time but WHY do they change? COS they think their policy is not good enough and could not benefit every one in Singapore. so they change UNDERSTAND!. lets take medical policy and say in my grand pa time when thay work where did they have such policy as Employee Medical Policy. onli when 10 years ago den there such policy.

REMEMBER THIS NO MATTER HOW GOOD A GOVERNMENT IS THEY STILL CANNOT BENEFIT EVERY ONE IN SINGAPORE IN JUST ONE TRY SO THEY HAVE TO KEEP CHANGING TO BENEFIT MORE PEOPLE WHO NEED HELP FROM SUCH POLICY!

michael dell started his computer business while he was a fresman for a pre-med university coursei. he didn't even get to finish that.

a college degree or age is not a hindrance to success.

I'm new here, and you got a nice forum going.

Hello from Manila.

hello GOwin,

Good point you have, education is always an asset, never a liability. So care to tell us what's hot in Manila these days?

I guess the problem with Philippines is that the general populace is easily influenced by idols due to the culture there... But in that sense I see more opportunity as there is unrest, and with unrest comes areas of "pain" that needs relief.

I am planning to make a trip up to Makati soon, probably in January 2006; the previous Philippines Trade Commissioner for Singapore invited me over sometime in March but I was tied up then, hopefully I can visit one of the many entrepreneur gatherings during my stay there.

Dear all,

What a fuzz are you al creating about National Service or conscription as it is known in the West.
We, in the Netherlands , have a volunteer based army(like the US) and it is working fine. But if you look at the Swiss, the have a NS and this is great because you get good relationships with your squadron and the people in it. These connections are often invaluable.

A real entrepreneur can overcome any barriers/obstacles.

Warm regards,

Robin

Robinholi,
I have to second that. Cheesy

I'm sure you have encountered voices or people with a different mindset along the way too.

Personally, when i felt that i've put forward my point of view and an agreement isn't met then i won't waste time with them.

I rather use my time to search for my fellow champion breeds.

Whisper: Pssss, isn't that right, Champion Taymastery? Wink
