Kindly list down your top 5 reads if possible with a short summary on why that book is a must read.

Current top 5 must reads.
-7 Habits  Stephen R. Covey
And engaging and enthralling learning experience. It opens up your mind in so many ways that you come out with a completely different view of the world around.

Only one so far that has the kind of impact. The rest are so-so's/passable or above average.

Fooled by Randomness - Prof Nassim Taleb

How pure chance can be mistaken for success/skill. Complete with PROOF and reasoning unlike many books which just claim that "this-and-this are correct".

A must read for anyone into financial literacy. It is vital to understand if what you're doing or paying for is worth your while or just an illusion of randomness.

If you think Fooled by Randomness is as complicated as uni text then you obviously have not read a real uni text or research journal. Fooled by Randomness is more of a casual read compared to those monstrosities.

Well, no one say financial literacy is easy. wink

tay, have you gone bonkers? from what i can see tom isn't participating in this thread.

personally, i'm puzzled as to why you would make such a unsubstantiated remark like : "No difference from reading a university textbooks on financial and accounting".

since you haven't read "Fooled by Randomness" in the first place. after spending thousands of dollars on courses/seminars/gurus, haven't you learn not to judge based only on your own biased opinion??

I would agree with SarahCovenant here. Fooled by Randomness is really a casual read compared to university texts on the same topic.

Tayl its a rather good book to read and I would suggest that you read it.

The purpose of this is actually to share with others the top 5(or top 10?) books that has had an impact on your life. (for the better of course!)

Books which you consider an excellent read and have derived benefit off and comes straight at the top of your head which you would like to share with others.

Since i presume that we're all here in spirit of sharing i figured this would be an excellent start!.

P.s
I still have my fingers crossed, i'm hoping that the moderators would lead by example Tongue.. =X

For Stocks/Investment Related Category.
In no order of Merit.

My professor lent me this book and it really opened my eyes. More details on this book mentioned by SC already.

2) Trade Your Way to Financial Freedom by Van K.Tharp
Despite its con-man like title, its less cheesy that one would have thought. Exposes the beginner to mathamatical expectation and various strategies that one can employ in a trading plan.

3) Reminiscences of a Stock Operator by Edwin Lefevre
A classic and must read. Supposedly detailing the life of reknown speculator Jesse Livermore. Certain concepts if you grasp are timeless and really applicable.

4) A Random Walk down Wall Street by Burton G.Malkiel
Comprehensive guide to the investment markets, a bit dry though as written by an academic.

5) Trading for a Living by Alexander Elder
Easy read, good start for technical analysis. Provides structure for a trading plan, exposes the beginner to basic money management/position sizing tactics.

Some of the investment books i read recently which i felt were pretty useful:

1) The successful investor:what 80 million people need to know to invest profitably and avoid big losses by William J O'Neil

--> Very logical and clear explanation on a trading plan, and many good examples on how to intepret a chart based simply on price and volume. Allows me to gain a much clearer understanding on TA, as well as the CANSLIM concept.

2) The prehistoric investor by Curtis J Montgomery (Wallstraits publications)

--> Great concise book on investing psychology, and common mistakes investors make as a result of irrational emotional behavior. The contrarian concept was an eye opener too.

3) Show me the money by Teh Hooi Ling

This author is a business times journalist, and the book is a collection of articles published in BT. Interesting research and findings there pertaining to the Singapore market.

Oh yes some of the books reccomended are very interesting. 'Fooled by ramdomness' will defintely be on my next 'must read' list
